Profile of the university
Furtwangen University's core focus is on science-based, practical education and training. The university is a leader in specialized areas of engineering, computer science, information systems and management, engineering management, media, international business and health. Applied research and technology transfer in cooperation with partners in the private and public sector is essential as a catalyst for innovation and the sustained relevance of the academic programs. Lecturers are actively involved in applied research, development and project work ensuring the relevance and quality of course content. Furtwangen University promotes such activities and the resulting scientific publications, and encourages students and companies to participate in the research and benefit from the results.
Furtwangen University is situated in southwest Germany in the lovely mountains of the Black Forest about 30 km east of Freiburg and about 70 km southeast of Strasbourg (France). The university comprises three campuses where more than 5500 students take part in 27 Bachelor and 11 Master degree programs. Roughly 3200 students are enrolled at the main campus in Furtwangen. More than 140 international partner universities enable students to benefit from international exchange and to spend parts of their studies outside of Germany.

Possibilities for incoming students
The courses in the Security & Safety Engineering program are mainly conducted in German. English speaking students may participate in the "International Semester" and select any courses conducted in English offered at the University of Furtwangen.In the Security & Safety Engineering program, course instructors also offer research or laboratory studies in English. Using all these possibilities, it is feasible to complete 20 - 30 ECTS with limited German language skills.
