Profile of the university
Laurea produces new competences in the field of service innovations and carries out professionally orientated education, regional development and R&D activities by following the Learning by Developing (LbD) operational model. Laurea employs approximately 500 personnel and has app. 8 000 students, of which app. 1 200 study in the adult education programmes. Laurea operates in the Greater Helsinki Region in seven units. Laurea offers education in Finnish and English on Bachelor’s and Master’s level degree programmes. Students can also take individual or supplementary courses through the Open University of Applied Sciences. At Laurea Leppävaara students can choose to focus on the studies designed for their particular degree programme or they can combine studies from different other programmes so that studies are structured to suit individual student. Students can also choose study options from Laurea’s partner schools. It is possible to do internship abroad. At Laurea theory is put into practice on various working life development projects throughout the studies. In accordance with Laurea’s pedagogical method, Learning by Development (LbD). LbD also helps students to develop skills, such as team and project working, which are highly valued in working life.
Day-time study is particularly suitable for younger students who are able to attend classes during weekdays. Daytime studies include classes on campus and online study options. Studies are implemented through project work and other exercises carried out individually or in teams.
Blended learning studies are especially suitable for adults and people who are working fulltime during their studies. Blended learning studies can consist of intensive classes, distance learning and independent or group study. Classes are arranged as intensive periods during weekdays, evenings or at weekends. Studying exploits virtual learning environments and current communication technology.
