General information

The B.A. in Security Management provides the skills required for higher management positions in industrial, operational and municipal security.

A first professional undergraduate qualification providing expertise in how risks evolve, the legal and technical framework for dealing with hazardous situations, knowledge of the social context in the security and conflict sector, and business skills. With the requisite qualifications, successful graduates may be able to study subsequently on the M.A. programme, e.g. M.A. in Security Management at the BSEL.

Study profile

Over the last years, the demand for security services has steadily risen both within Germany and throughout Europe. As state tasks have been re-defined, the 'private service sector' has been increasingly involved in solving local security problems, while the company sector is now also giving far greater weight to 'security' concerns. Even smaller companies, especially those active internationally, may need to carry out risk analyses and require qualified personnel for their specific security tasks. This degree programme was developed in conjunction with industrial and company security experts, together with police and policy specialists. The programme has, additionally, close contacts to professional associations and interest groups in the field. The B.A. in Security Management was the first programme of its kind in Germany, and provides the skills needed for management positions in industrial, operational and municipal security.

Depending on their degree results and qualifications, successful graduates may be able to study subsequently on the M.A. programme, for example, M.A. in Security Management at the BSEL.

The B.A. in Security Management has a prescribed period of study of seven semesters, with a six-month work placement.
