UiT’s 16,610 students are spread across four main campuses in Tromsø, Alta, Harstad and Narvik, plus seven smaller campuses. UiT offers degree programmes at bachelor’s, master’s and PhD levels across six faculties, one University Museum and the Academy of Fine Arts. One-third of the master’s programmes are taught in English, and the university has a special focus on unity and diversity.

Department of Technology and Safety (ITS)

The Department of Technology and Safety has approximately 80 employees and around 500 students. It offers seven bachelor’s and four master’s degrees, with research in aviation, nautical studies, aquaculture, engineering, and societal safety and security. Topics related to risk, safety and security are at the core of its study programmes, supported by close cooperation with industrial partners and public organisations.

Bachelor’s in International Preparedness (crisis management, emergency preparedness and societal security; Campus Harstad, with the Norwegian Fire Academy); Bachelor’s in Societal Safety and Security; Bachelor’s in Security and Preparedness (Campus Kirkenes); Bachelor’s in Sustainable Development (engineering); Master’s in Technology and Safety; Master’s in Societal Safety and Security; and the online Master’s in Contemporary Risk and Crisis Management (CRCM), taught in English.

Inbound student mobility

UiT cooperates with partner universities within Erasmus+, bilateral agreements and the NORDPLUS network among the Nordic countries, welcoming around 400 exchange students each year.
