The University of Stavanger is Norway’s sixth-largest university, located in south-west Norway, with approximately 12,000 students and some 1,600 faculty, administration and service staff. Academic life is organised into six faculties comprising 14 departments/schools and two National Research Centres.
Risk Management and Societal Safety
This multidisciplinary research group at the Faculty of Science and Technology has around 27 fixed-position employees and about 20 PhD students with backgrounds in engineering, economics and social sciences. The group is at the Norwegian forefront of the conceptual, theoretical and practical development of societal security and safety, risk analysis, resilience, crisis management, transport and oil & gas safety, and governmental planning and regulation.
Study programmes
Bachelor in Urban Planning and Societal Safety; Bachelor in Customs, Movement of Goods and Border Control; Master of Science in Societal Safety; Master of Science in Risk Analysis (taught in English); and an interdisciplinary PhD programme in Risk Management and Societal Safety. These studies offer unique competences in system reliability and technical and economic analysis of safety, spanning both technical risk and societal safety perspectives.
